Welcome to the infield

Derby day last weekend my assignment was to gather and produce a multimedia piece on the infield at Churchill Downs. It had to be live on the web at 3:00pm. The infield gates open at 8:00am with people running through the tunnel to claim their spot on the fence line to get a good view of the day’s races. Usually the infield is wild and crazy but due to the weather this year it was toned down a little. I had the option to do an audio slideshow or all video or a mix. I was working for the Herald-Leader in Lexington and they really left it up to me to choose which was nice. I decided that I would pick as I went along and ended up doing mostly video with the 5D. It was really the first time that I had shot and produced something with the 5D in such a quick amount of time. It’s not perfect and needs some polishing but I’m happy with what I came away with for a few hours in the morning and producing.
